All for the Love of Colour
Cornwall based Muriel Cole began an intensive exploration of painted colour and form some eleven years ago. Essentially self-taught, she started by making decorative cards, fell in love with water-colour and, following a trip to Cuba, began to produce a series of powerful, exotic paintings, conjuring the heat and colour of a country far from her native south west.

Working in acrylic for the past five years she discovered quite dissimilar styles and techniques along the way until settling on her current two styles. But she can’t give up painting the occasional black, grey and white one that she finds so expressive and exciting.
Now, she mainly uses a roller rather than brushes and her latest works are featuring evocative areas of texture and colour spread across the canvas.
“I get a huge inspiration by watching nature grow and observing the changing colours and shapes of the countryside whether in my local fields or along the coast path. These images stimulate my imagination which I transpose into my contemporary paintings. I want my paintings to evoke the sense of space and freedom that I feel.
My work can be varied but it is always driven by colour and form.
Researching, sketching and producing my paintings gives me such pleasure that I want you to feel and share my happiness”
I paint from my heart and paint how and what I love, with that, I hope that the viewer takes away the love and happiness I feel when I compose and paint the canvases.
