I’m so pleased you’re interested in my paintings. I could waffle on about where I get my inspiration but to be quite honest I just love to paint and, like most artists, find the best subjects to paint are those that I’m most familiar with and that are on my doorstep...
NEWS & EVENTS
I didn’t have any formal training but instead enjoyed learning from local art teachers. It took a while to find my ‘style’ (funny how other people can always see it before you can) but once I discovered mixed media there was no turning back.
One of the challenges for an artist can be to be ‘loosen up’, I’ve found working with texture and inks a really good way to help me do this. I was suddenly able to get more vibrancy and atmosphere in my pictures and my imagination began to play a part in their creation.
I start by preparing my boards, adding a variety of interesting textures. These can be anything from tissue paper, organic matter to various texture pastes. They are then primed and finally the colour is added using Acrylic Inks. The process involves a lot of drying time so I’m always working on several at a time, allowing me to keep a fresh eye by not spending too long on each one at any one time.
Sometimes a lucky accident can lead to something unexpected and the painting can take a different direction to that which I’d intended. It’s always best to go with the flow (literally!) and let the ink decide what it wants to create.
I welcome commissions (so long as there’s no time pressure – it kills the creativity!!!), so please do get in touch if you are interested.
I hope you enjoy seeing the world through my eyes. Thanks for looking…….Jackie
